Soon I will be leaving my corporate and farm life behind for a week in the saddle!
During the first week of March, I am undertaking one of my biggest challenges so far, a 7 day/ 1000km bike ride across Northern Tasmania to raise much needed funds for Ovarian Cancer Australia.
I’ve not always been a cyclist, so this is particularly daunting for me. What’s more daunting is the prospect of ovarian cancer. Every day, 4 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Whilst survival has increased, it's still a major cause of death amongst women. There’re currently no screening tools available, most cases of ovarian cancer have already spread beyond the ovary before they are diagnosed.
As a volunteer at RoCan (www.rocan.org.au), I’m excited this year’s focus is to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Australia. This fund raising is aimed at early detection of ovarian cancer, cancer treatment and to build a wellness centre where families will be able to stay overnight whilst their loved ones are undergoing treatment.
Whilst I ride through towns such as Launceston, Devonport, Beaconsfield, and Bridport covering 1000km, please know that 100% of what you donate will go to the cause! RoCan charity runs with very little overhead. All expenses of this trip are self-funded and all people involved are volunteers.
Please support me on my journey for this great cause by donating. Every dollar donated will be greatly appreciated. You can sponsor me and leave a message by selecting the ‘donate’ button above.
Go Catherine!
